Moss survives in damp, shady, moist conditions and produces spores rapidly.  Whilst moss and algae are not dangerous in itself, they can be treacherous, particularly on hard surfaces as the risk of slipping is high

Good old fashioned sweeping with a stiff brush can remove moss, but it does not remove the conditions that it thrives in. By moving the moss around,  this also disturbs the spores which can also be easily spread during the sweeping process.  Once you have cleared the moss, you could consider using a moss and algae control product to keep them at bay for longer!
